Ouch!

'OUCH!' written by Stephen Christopher is an expressive and interactive safety production for Key Stage One (Ages 5-7) children which delivers important messages about personal safety. It introduces very young children to theatre and drama as a form and a way of communicating ideas and messages developing their ability to begin to express and understand basic concepts and notions.

We use the ‘mantle of the expert’ approach within the performance to help pupils explore numerous safety messages including medicines, road safety and stranger danger.

We have also now included in the performance the basic rules of stopping the spread of COVID19 and what children can do to look after their own mental health during these difficult times.

We find there are very few shows that are tailored so uniquely for this age group and yet this is the perfect time to develop a love of theatre by capturing the hearts and minds of young people, in establishing the future audience and spectatorship of the future.

Producing high-quality theatre-in-education that engages staff and students is of paramount importance – this mission drives us forward. The cherry on the cake is that when we do such a great job, we receive multiple reviews testifying to that statement.

Every project delivers a different experience to those involved so it rewarding to hear first-hand what our audience took away with them. For some, our projects can be reflective and thought-provoking, for others they can install confidence and ignite passion. Please take a moment to read some reviews from past and present Wizard Theatre clients.

We rarely see something of this quality so age appropriate.

Chalkwell Hall Infants School

The balance of control, enjoyment and learning the danger issues came across very well. I hope this show continues to help and remind many children (and adults).

Hamstel Infants School

Fun and educational! Talking to strangers segment particularly well dealt with. Flexible enough to take their responses into consideration and got the relevant message across in a very entertaining way.

Mayfield Primary School

An extremely valuable experience for the children, which they also thoroughly enjoyed. Very well structured and informative show brilliantly performed. Certainly brought ‘safety’ to life
